Diagnostic Laboratory

Mercy, one of our lab techniciansThe laboratory is open from 8am to 8pm from Monday to Friday and from 8am to 5pm Saturday and Sunday. During these hours a medically trained laboratory technician is on duty.

Diseases able to be diagnosed include malaria, typhoid, brucellosis, sickle cell disease, STDs, anaemia, leucocytopenia, hypoglycemia, hyperglycaemia, HIV, urinary tract infections, gastro intestinal infections and infestations, respiratory tract infections including TB. Pregnancy testing, including counselling if necessary and blood grouping are also available.

Patients attending the health centre when the laboratory is closed may have a specimen taken by medical personnel on duty for testing later.The charges for all tests are very reasonable.

HIV Testing and Counselling

HIV testing is done in the laboratory at the health centre by the current 'Abbott Determine' methods recommended by Uganda Ministry of Health with W.H.O. Results are available within one hour if requested. Pre and post test counselling is given to all our clients by experienced and trained medical personnel. A special rate is given for couples attending together for pre-marriage testing.

A printed document is given free of charge on request with the clients result. For those requiring further advice, counselling or treatment etc. our medical staff can give a written letter of referral to a specialist organisation.

HIV test charges are at a reasonable price.

Sexually Transmitted Diseases

Our diagnostic laboratory is able to test for most STDs including HIV. Treatment is available for STDs from our dispensary, on prescription.

At present we are unable to offer treatment for HIV but can refer you to a centre for specialist advice etc.

All charges for testing and treatment are reasonable.
