Founder's Introduction

Mike and Beryl GodwardFrom Wellspring's founder and now Co-Director, Michael Godward ...

An unfolding of the word of God and a deepening awareness of present day truth has left me with an insatiable desire to be part of the radiant church Paul speaks of (Eph. 5:27). Sometimes I ask, "How long O Lord?" but the journey is exciting.

The massive birth of souls that we are accustomed to hearing of across East and Central Africa is startling. However there is often a large vacuum created with many 'saved' but nowhere to go and no one to disciple them. Several present day pastors, having had only the gospel preached to them, preach ONLY the Gospel week in, week out. By and large the Church in East and Central Africa is legalistic, doctrinaire, entertainment centred, and led by those who have their own agenda. The exceptions to this have increased, and in such cases God is pouring out His Holy Spirit.

Before leaving to live in Uganda in March 1995, my wife Beryl and I were commissioned with clear prophetic direction.

"You are going to birth sons - not only to build churches. Look for jewels that God will send you, they will be like arrows that can be sent off to establish God's kingdom in the Nation."

Nearly fourteen years on, following 'trials of every kind', fruit is clearly evident, birthed sons are coming to maturity, and arrows have found their mark. The kingdom model God clearly put in our hearts is taking shape and 'church' has taken on a refreshing and challenging dimension. The challenge of 'succession' is one we all face. Beryl and I are thrilled that our 'sons' and 'daughters' are ready, willing and able to carry on what God enabled us to begin.

Herbert and Eve WanjalaOur new director is Herbert Wanjala who took up his position on January 1 2008. A vet by profession, Herbert has been part of our team for eleven years and was Co Director for the whole of 2007. He takes over at a time of unprecedented growth as 'Wellspring Africa' moves forward. I am delighted that yet another 'son' has come to maturity. Herbert is married to Eve who is General Manager of Wellspring, and they have three wonderful children.
